With spring on the way we thought we’d tell you more about our Grüner and why it’s perfect for this time of year! Grüner Veltliner is Austria’s most important wine, it’s produced in lots of different styles but by far the most popular are lean, herbaceous and peppery. The high levels of acidity make Grüner Veltliner mouth wateringly tasty and very refreshing on a hot spring or summer’s day! Our Grüner Veltliner follows this style with bursting acidity, lots of green fruit like apples with a herbaceous and peppery finish.
Grüner Veltliner is also grown in other central European countries like Hungary and Slovakia but Austria remains the most important region for this particular grape. It’s a perfect alternative for people who enjoy Sauvignon Blanc, Vinho Verde or Verdejo wines. It’s also sometimes used in Ice wines, which are very sweet late harvested wines picked when the grapes are frozen.
As an ideal palate cleanser Grüner Veltliner works really well with food and is highly versatile. It pairs brilliantly with white meat and sea food, so try it alongside some chicken on the BBQ. Grüner Veltlinter is best served just above fridge temperature, so take your cans out of the fridge, pack in a bag and enjoy on a picnic a little while later!
