About this wine

Meet our vintage Old Vine Garnacha. Aromas of chocolate-coated cherries and cassis with some vanilla spice lead you into a warming palate with a good tang of racy acidity. Fruit is all black cherry and bright strawberry. Tannins are smooth with a lovely touch of cherry stone and almond on the finish. This red is made from grapes grown on old vines at altitude in the Aragon region of Spain. They are hand-harvested, gently pressed, and matured in oak for 12 months, developing into a wine that is truly special.

Food pairing

Our Old Vine Garnacha pairs well with steak, but even better with pork belly or lamb chops. It will stand-up to heartier dishes like cassoulet, sausages and mash, or beef and ale pie. Vegetarian? Think smoky with grilled veg skewers on the BBQ, smoky bean chilli, or sticky glazed aubergines.

El Escocés Volante

El Escocés Volante is a family-owned business in Aragon, Spain, passionate about producing high quality wines with a particular focus on the native Garnacha variety. Owner and winemaker Norrel Robertson MW – also known as the Flying Scotsman – became a Master of Wine in 2000 and has lived in Spain with his family since 2003 after purchasing old vine vineyards in the rugged Calatayud countryside. A true family ordeal, Norrel’s wife Sharon and sons James and Will all play an active part in the business.
