The simple answer is: yes. With the abundance of meat, marinades and sauces, you might think that white wine won’t be able to stand up to BBQ food like a red wine could, but it’s all down to the pairing.

BBQ staples like burgers and steaks would actually work really well with a Barrel Aged Verdejo; and grilled chicken pairs beautifully with a Grüner Veltliner.

Grüner Veltliner
The refreshing, vibrant and zesty Grüner Veltliner pairs well with most grilled flavours, especially grilled vegetables and shrimp, coal-grilled fish seasoned with a spicy rub and classic hot dogs loaded with mustard and sauerkraut.

If you’re thinking of serving an oily fish like trout or going Mediterranean with grilled sardines, our Grüner Veltliner would pair excellently too. The natural saltiness from these dishes brings out the zippy acidity of the wine. It also goes well with Greek salad topped with feta.

Viognier
Viognier is a good all-round white wine that can hold up to both the charring and the sweetness of grilling. If you’re vegetarian or just love veggie burgers, then this wine is our recommendation. No need to worry about buying an additional wine for meat-eaters as Viognier also works well with hamburgers topped with a mushroom sauce. Other great pairings include aromatic grilled lemongrass chicken, fresh rocket and blue cheese salad, and grilled salmon.

Barrel Aged Verdejo
Our Barrel Aged Verdejo is a delicious, ripe and velvety summer wine from Rueda, Spain, that pairs beautifully with lighter BBQ dishes. Think BBQ recipes like grilled chicken glazed with apricot jam, halloumi and red pepper skewers, and spicy white fish tacos. Simple recipes that play off of the citrus and minerality of the Verdejo work best.

So next time you’re choosing a BBQ tipple, don’t overlook white wine. Order our white wine selection and see for yourself.

Happy sipping!
